Ageless Thanet 50+ Festival

What’s in store for the 50+ Festival 2017?

The 50+ Festival brings together the best of what Thanet has to offer. Ageless Thanet, working in partnership with a huge number of fantastic people and organisations, aims to bring you a wide range of fun and exciting activities and experiences.

The theme this year is ‘interactive’, with the emphasis you people getting involved and ‘having a go’. We want you to try new things and, hopefully, find a new hobby or skill.

The 50+ Festival Programme is here!

Taster Sessions

Tai Chi
Dave Lloyd will be running taster sessions of Tai Chi throughout the day. Tai Chi is a non-competitive martial art, known for both its defence techniques and health benefits. It is an ancient Chinese tradition, evolved over centuries to become a way of alleviating stress and anxiety, a form of “meditation in motion”. For those who do Tai Chi, it is claimed it promotes serenity and inner peace

Long-time partner on the project, Clayspace, have very kindly agreed to running several taster Pottery classes throughout the day. They’ve even agreed to bring a potter’s wheel for people to have a go on! So, if you see yourself as the next Grayson Perry or Keith Brymer Jones, make sure you have a go!

Zumba and Dance Through the Ages
Zumba is a Latin inspired fitness dance.  Work to your own level with a workout that is fun and easy to do. Dancing Through The Ages – classic songs from the past and present to the sounds of Sir Tom Jones, Tina Turner, Abba and many more. All levels of fitness welcome. If you enjoy the FREE taster session, Zumba with Lisa Clifford is one of our Age-Friendly Businesses so you can get 10% off your first class with your Reward Card.

Live Better
Live Better incorporates a variety of activities to assist you in leading a healthy and active lifestyle. With a range of activities including aqua aerobics, circuit classes, swim sessions and badminton groups, there’s enough choice to suit everyone.

The Live Better team will be on hand throughout the day to do FREE health checks, as well as answering any questions you have about Live Better.

Belly Dancing
Belly dance is a non-impact, weight-bearing exercise and suitable for all ages. It is a good exercise for the prevention of osteoporosis in older people, and strengthens all spinal and abdominal muscles. Originally from the Middle-East, its popularity has spread globally, taking many different forms

Scalextric and Model Railway
For big kids of all ages, come have a go on a Scalextric set.  Hornby will also have a model railway set up on the day to take a look at too!

Boccia is a precision ball sport, similar to Bowls and Petanque, but from a seated position. The aim of the game is to throw  a ball as close as you can to a white ball, or jack. It can be played by individuals, pairs, or teams of three.

Want to be an exhibitor next year year?

If you’re a local club, business, organisation, group or charity and would like the opportunity to promote your services to a wide audience, please contact us on 01843 210005 or e-mail us by clicking here. Unfortunately we are now fully booked for this year’s festival, but please do still get in touch and we can register you interest for next year.

This year, there has been a small charge of £20 for all exhibitors. Whilst we are Big Lottery Funded, the 50+ Festival is above and beyond what we are funded for. So, to make it cost neutral and ensure we can keep doing it, we are charging a small fee to help pay for the event overheads. We thanks those who’ve already booked on and made payment.

Why should you exhibit?

  • Last year we had approx. 1,400 visitors on the day
  • It’s a great way to promote your services
  • Very cost-effective direct marketing
  • Show your support for a fantastic community-led project
  • Help Make Thanet an even greater place to grow older

About our sponsors…

This year, we are very proud and very happy to have several fantastic local businesses and organisations sponsor the Ageless Thanet 50+ Festival. Whilst we are Big Lottery Funded, the 50+ Festival goes above and beyond what we’re funded for. Through sponsorship, we are able to continue running the 50+ Festival and ensuring it is free to attend.

Our Main Sponsor – Right at Home
Home care company Right at Home has pledged its support to Ageless Thanet’s upcoming 50+ Festival and highlighted the importance of ‘adding life to years, rather than years to life.’ The locally-owned business is immensely proud to be the main sponsor for the 50+ Festival.

Although having lived in Broadstairs for over 20 years, Right at Home (East Kent) owner and Managing Director Lee Jackson (by default an older person) wanted to have a more active role locally.

Lee said: “At Right at Home we support vulnerable and older adults to retain their independence at home in many ways. We are also passionate about making positive contributions to our local community, by supporting the voluntary sector, raising dementia awareness and providing meaningful employment to those seeking a worthwhile career.”

Our other sponsors:
Many thanks to Hardman & Watson Solicitors, Safe Hands Mobility Centres and Trinity Community Resource Centre for sponsoring and supporting the Ageless Thanet Festival 2017.
