SEK has been delivering health and social care training and qualifications for over 10 years. In 2012/13 alone we delivered 234 level 2 qualifications and 138 level 3s. Learning is usually done on-site, and our trainers and assessors have all had operational roles within the Health and Social Care sector – some are still practicing part time. When choosing your learning pathway, you can chose specialisms in Dementia, Learning Disabilities, or follow a generic path. You and your employer can choose the subjects you study.

Health and Social Care Apprenticeships
Level 2,3 and 5: 1-2 Year Duration
Working with other healthcare professionals in the care of individuals, a Health and Social Care Apprentice will gain the knowledge and skills needed to work in a variety of settings.
The apprenticeship includes a minimum of 30 hours paid employment. The apprentice will gain a diploma, technical certificate, Maths and English qualifications. The apprentice will be working in a vital and pivotal role for their community supporting people live with independence and dignity.
Health and Social Care Diplomas
Level 2,3,5: 6-9 Month Duration
A Diploma in Health and Social Care is flexible to suit all fields of health and social care. Learners can select a pathway that suits their role – for example, working with people with a learning disability, people with dementia or children and young people. This is the main qualification required by the Quality Care Commission in England and the Care Councils in Wales and Northern Ireland.
These are the recognised qualifications for care workers and senior care workers in health and social care.
To take the Level 3 qualification, you must be working in a care setting already. For the Level 2 qualification, you may have no previous experience, or you might be working in care and want recognition for your current skills. For the level 5 qualification you must be working in a supervisory capacity.
Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People
Level 1: 1 Week Duration
This knowledge-based qualification gives an introduction to working in adult social care or with children and young people. Training takes place in a class-room environment only. (No work placements need to be arranged). The qualifications cover a variety of areas, including: equality, diversity and inclusion; introduction to the role of a social care worker; health and safety; and awareness of safeguarding and duty of care.
