Course Content
The session supports Care Certificate Standards 12 (Basic Life Support) and contributes to the learning requirements set out by the CQC (Care Quality Commission) for care settings. It is ideal for induction programmes, annual refresher training, or for support staff and volunteers who need to understand their role in responding to a health emergency while awaiting professional medical assistance.
Learners will gain an understanding of what constitutes an emergency and how to safely manage the scene while protecting the individual’s dignity and wellbeing. The course covers core life-saving skills such as how to check for breathing, place someone in the recovery position, recognise choking, and deliver CPR confidently and effectively. Practical instruction also includes how to alert emergency services and what information to give.
Although not accredited, this course offers meaningful CPD and can be tailored to reflect the realities of the working environment — whether supporting adults, older people, or those with complex needs. By increasing awareness of first aid, the course helps ensure staff are ready to act safely, respectfully, and promptly in critical situations.
Importantly, this training also supports a culture of shared responsibility and empowerment across care teams. Every member of staff plays a role in creating safer environments, and basic first aid awareness is a vital part of ensuring people receive timely, compassionate care in an emergency.
Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance and leave the session with increased confidence, improved response times, and practical tools they can use in their everyday roles.
