Course Content
In a sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts — and early use of a defibrillator (AED) can dramatically increase a person’s chance of survival. But knowing where your AED is, how it works, and how to act under pressure isn’t always straightforward. This Defibrillator Practical Workshop is a half-day, hands-on session designed to build real-life confidence and familiarity with your setting’s defibrillator and emergency procedures.
Unlike generic training sessions, this workshop is ideally delivered onsite, allowing your team to practise in the space where a real emergency would occur. This makes it easier to identify potential barriers, gaps in knowledge, or practical issues with access, signage, or communication during a cardiac event. Participants will use your actual AED, as well as training models, to ensure they are familiar with the specific equipment they may be expected to use.
The session includes a review of current resuscitation guidance, a reminder of how to perform effective CPR, and step-by-step support in using an AED safely and confidently. Learners will walk through a realistic scenario, from identifying an unresponsive person to alerting others, collecting the AED, and applying pads — all while using your organisation’s layout and resources.
This workshop is suitable for staff and volunteers across all sectors, including education, care, community venues, offices, and retail. It is particularly valuable for teams who already have an AED onsite but feel unsure about what to do, or who want to improve their emergency readiness as part of ongoing health and safety efforts.
By the end of the workshop, learners will have had the opportunity to ask questions, practise real procedures, and review their organisation’s policy in context. It’s not just about ticking a box — it’s about making sure that if a cardiac emergency happens, your team is ready, responsive, and confident.
