Course Content

Emergencies involving babies and young children can be particularly distressing, and knowing how to respond appropriately can make a critical difference in both the short- and long-term outcomes for the child. This Emergency Paediatric First Aid course has been specifically designed to equip learners with the practical skills, awareness, and confidence needed to respond to the most common paediatric emergencies.

Delivered over one day, the course is both hands-on and accessible, combining trainer-led instruction with practical demonstrations and interactive exercises. Participants will learn how to assess emergency situations, perform CPR on infants and young children, manage choking incidents, treat bleeding and shock, and respond to conditions such as asthma, allergies, and fainting.

This course is suitable for anyone who works with or cares for children, whether in a professional capacity or as part of a family. It is ideal for nursery workers, school staff, childminders, volunteers, and those working in youth settings such as holiday clubs, after-school provisions, or community projects. It’s also a valuable course for parents, guardians, or grandparents who want peace of mind and the skills to step in if a child in their care needs urgent help.

The training is aligned with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework and meets the standards expected by Ofsted for early years first aid provision. For early years settings, having staff trained in paediatric first aid isn’t just a regulatory expectation — it’s a vital part of keeping children safe, supporting staff development, and reassuring families that appropriate procedures are in place.

At the end of the course, learners will gain a Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for three years. The training supports individual learning and workplace compliance, while helping to create safer environments for children across a range of settings.
