Course Content
Epilepsy is a neurological condition that affects the electrical activity in the brain and can lead to recurring seizures. This half-day course gives care staff the knowledge to understand what epilepsy is, how it is diagnosed, and how it may impact the people they support.
The course explores the different types of seizures, including tonic-clonic, atonic, myoclonic, absence, and focal seizures. Learners will also examine the potential triggers of seizures and gain an awareness of how epilepsy may affect daily life, memory, and emotional wellbeing.
A key part of the course focuses on safe, effective first aid during and after a seizure, and how to support people in ways that reduce risk, maintain dignity, and promote confidence. The session reflects national best practice guidance, including information from Epilepsy Action and the NHS.
This training is ideal for care teams who need to understand epilepsy and ensure they are confident and competent to provide safe, supportive care.
