Overview
Falls are a leading cause of injury and loss of independence in older adults and people with support needs. This half-day Falls Prevention course supports care staff to understand the reasons behind falls and how to take practical, proactive steps to reduce risk and maintain mobility.
Designed for residential, supported living, and domiciliary care staff, the course looks at both individual and environmental risk factors. It encourages a preventative approach, with a focus on careful monitoring, effective communication, and the use of equipment where appropriate.
By improving awareness and confidence, staff are better able to protect people’s safety while supporting independence and dignity.

Course Content
This course explores why people may be more vulnerable to falling — including medical, environmental, and lifestyle-related factors — and how staff can reduce those risks with confidence and care.
Learners will examine the most common causes of falls in care settings and how a preventative, rather than reactive, approach can reduce injuries, anxiety, and hospital admissions. Topics include effective documentation, reporting procedures, and how to respond after a fall to safeguard both the individual and the service.
The course also covers practical measures, such as assistive equipment, environmental checks, and promoting safe mobility. With a strong focus on maintaining independence and wellbeing, the training reflects best practice guidance from organisations such as the NHS, Age UK, and Public Health England.
