Course Content

This interactive course is designed for professionals and volunteers working with children, young people, and families across settings like schools, youth services, after-school clubs, and children’s homes.

The session explores what gangs are, why young people are drawn to them, and how peer dynamics, aggression, and violence can develop. It also unpacks radicalisation and extremism, providing a practical understanding of the Prevent Duty under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 — a legal requirement for all those working in regulated environments with children and young people.

Participants will learn to identify early indicators of vulnerability, distinguish between anti-social behaviour and criminality, and understand how adolescent brain development impacts decision-making. The course uses tutor input, group work, case studies, and Q&A to build practical skills and promote safer environments.

For those working in children’s homes, the course also supports compliance with OFSTED safeguarding expectations and induction standards, ensuring staff can confidently support at-risk young people and engage in multi-agency safeguarding work.
