Course Content

Health and safety affects everyone, and understanding the basics is vital to creating a safe and compliant workplace. This Health and Safety Awareness course introduces delegates to the key principles of workplace safety, ensuring that all employees are aware of their roles and responsibilities under UK law.

The session begins with an overview of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the cornerstone of workplace safety legislation in the UK. Delegates learn what this means in practice, from employer duties to provide a safe working environment to employee responsibilities for looking after their own and others’ wellbeing.

Through discussion, short activities, and relatable case studies, participants explore the most common causes of workplace injuries and illnesses, including slips, trips, falls, manual handling, and poor housekeeping. They also consider the human and business costs of failing to manage health and safety effectively, such as legal penalties, lost productivity, and reputational damage.

The course also looks at practical steps for maintaining safe working practices, including hazard spotting, basic risk assessment, and how to report concerns before they become incidents. By focusing on real-life examples, delegates gain practical insight into how small actions can make a big difference to safety across the workplace.

Delivered in an engaging and accessible format, this half-day course is ideal for inductions, refresher training, or organisations aiming to improve compliance and awareness. It helps staff understand not just what to do, but why safety matters, supporting a positive, proactive workplace culture.
