Overview


This Infection, Prevention and Control course provides care staff with essential knowledge to reduce the spread of infection and maintain safe working practices. It is suitable for all staff working in residential, supported living, or domiciliary care, and reflects core health and safety responsibilities.

Through interactive activities and real-world examples, learners will explore how infections spread, how to reduce risk, and how to safely use, store, and dispose of hazardous materials. The course also addresses key hygiene practices and environmental cleaning standards required in care settings.

Course Content


Infection prevention and control is a vital part of providing safe and effective care. This course raises awareness of how infections spread and gives staff the confidence to apply safe working practices that minimise risk to themselves and others.

Learners will explore infectious organisms, how they are transmitted, and the impact of contact and contamination in everyday care situations. Activities support understanding of safe cleaning routines, correct use of chemicals, and the difference between cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilising. Personal hygiene and handwashing are also discussed in line with recognised standards.

The course reinforces the importance of acting promptly and safely in the event of infection risks and supports a culture of responsibility and good hygiene practice. It reflects best practice from organisations such as the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), NHS, and Department of Health and Social Care.
