Overview

This half-day refresher is for staff who have previously completed the full-day Moving and Assisting People training within the past 12–18 months. It covers key theory and provides a practical opportunity to reinforce safe, correct use of hoist equipment. Ideal for maintaining confidence, correcting poor habits, and staying compliant with care standards.

Course Content

This half-day refresher course is for care staff who have previously completed a full Moving and Assisting People course (including hoist use) within the last two years. The session focuses on updating theoretical knowledge and correcting any unsafe habits through hands-on practice.

Delegates will revisit key principles such as back care, posture, communication, and the risks of poor technique. A practical session includes safe use of mobile and standing hoists, chair transfers, and slide sheet techniques. Participants will also check and inspect equipment and discuss when and how to use it safely in practice.

This course supports staff in maintaining their skills in line with best practice and Care Certificate Standard 13.3, and is recommended as part of an annual training cycle.
