Course Content
Designed for anyone whose role involves moving or carrying items such as boxes, equipment, or furniture, the course blends theory and practical learning to ensure participants leave with skills they can immediately apply in their daily work.
Delegates begin by exploring the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, which outline the legal requirements for employers and employees to manage and minimise manual handling risks. They then examine how to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement safe systems of work.
The training covers the physiology and biomechanics of the spine, demonstrating how incorrect posture and poor technique can lead to long-term injury. Learners also discuss the wider consequences of unsafe practices, including the impact on health, morale, and productivity.
A key feature of this course is its practical focus. By delivering the session at your workplace, the trainer can demonstrate safe techniques using the actual objects your staff handle, such as boxes, tables, or equipment. Delegates participate in demonstrations and practice sessions, developing confidence in lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tasks safely and efficiently.
The course concludes with guidance on completing a moving and handling risk assessment, giving staff the confidence to evaluate real-life situations and identify where improvements can be made.
Whether used as part of induction training or as a refresher, this half-day course supports compliance, reduces workplace injury risk, and promotes a safer, more proactive safety culture.
