Course Content

Good communication builds trust, respect, and stronger working relationships. However, in pressured situations or with certain individuals, staying calm and assertive can be tough. This one-day course helps you recognise how you’re perceived by others and gives you practical tools to communicate with clarity, confidence, and professionalism.

Assertiveness is about expressing yourself clearly and respectfully, without being passive or aggressive. You’ll learn how to stand your ground, protect your boundaries, and stay composed when facing challenging conversations.

We’ll start by exploring your personal communication style and its impact. Then, you’ll be introduced to the APA Model (Assertive, Passive, Aggressive) and how to apply it in real situations. You’ll practise assertiveness techniques that help you stay calm, hold your position, and respond constructively to criticism, aggression, or unreasonable demands.

You’ll also learn how to deal with passive, aggressive, and passive-aggressive behaviours—whether from customers, colleagues, or others. Throughout the course, you’ll develop strategies to prepare for difficult conversations and regain control in emotionally charged situations.

This course is practical, reflective, and suitable for staff at any level who want to communicate more effectively and professionally. Whether you’re dealing with the public, managing a team, or simply want to feel more confident speaking up, this training will give you the tools to make your message heard—without conflict.

At Social Enterprise Kent CIC, we believe confidence and respect go hand in hand. This course helps you strengthen both—creating a more positive, assertive working environment.
