Course Content

The Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health is the most in-depth course in the series, offering a comprehensive two-day training experience for those who are responsible for leading or coordinating mental health support in the workplace.

Building on the content of Levels 1 and 2, this qualification dives deeper into a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, psychosis, personality disorders, self-harm, and substance misuse. Learners will explore the signs and symptoms of each condition, consider contributing factors, and understand the pathways to professional help and recovery.

A core focus of the course is the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan, a structured framework that helps designated first aiders respond with confidence. You’ll practise how to hold safe, non-judgemental conversations, recognise risk (including suicidal ideation), and know when and how to escalate concerns appropriately.

The course also looks at the broader organisational context, helping learners identify ways to build and maintain a mentally healthy culture. Topics include the impact of workplace stress, leadership responsibilities, and effective signposting to internal and external support services.

This course is ideal for supervisors, line managers, HR professionals, and workplace champions responsible for wellbeing or employee engagement. It’s also suitable for trainer/assessors delivering mental health or wellbeing content within their organisation.

Certification is provided through Nuco Training as a Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health, valid for three years. Refresher training is strongly recommended annually to maintain confidence and current knowledge.
