Delivered in plain English, it’s designed for people without a technical background who want to feel more confident about keeping information and systems safe. The session explores passwords, phishing, scams, and safe digital habits, equipping participants to protect both personal and organisational data.

Key Learning

  • Identify common online threats and risks
  • Recognise phishing and social engineering attempts
  • Understand password safety and secure login practices
  • Keep personal devices and networks secure
  • Develop good cyber hygiene and safe online habits
  • Understand the link between data protection and cyber security

Course Content

Cyber crime continues to rise, and small organisations, particularly those in the voluntary and community sector, are frequent targets. Limited resources and shared systems can make them vulnerable to attack. Cyber Security Awareness for the Workplace offers a simple, non-technical introduction to keeping information secure and preventing common digital threats.

The course explores how cyber attacks happen, what warning signs to look for, and how everyday behaviours can protect or expose your organisation. Participants learn about password safety, multi-factor authentication, and how to identify suspicious emails or websites. Practical examples help attendees recognise phishing, malware, and social engineering tactics used by criminals to gain access to data or finances.

The session also highlights the role of staff awareness in organisational security, including safe device use, secure Wi-Fi practices, and responsible data storage. Trainers draw on real-world scenarios to demonstrate how a few simple steps can dramatically reduce risk.

While highly accessible, the course links to recognised best practice guidance from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and the UK GDPR’s requirement for data security under the Data Protection Act 2018. This makes it particularly valuable for VCSEs, small businesses, and community organisations that may not have dedicated IT teams but still need to meet legal and contractual data-handling standards.

Participants leave with greater awareness of online risks and the confidence to take simple, proactive measures to safeguard their organisation and its people.
