Course Content

A safe and healthy workplace doesn’t happen by accident, it’s achieved through knowledge, awareness, and consistent application of best practice. The FAA Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace provides learners with the practical understanding needed to identify, manage, and control health and safety risks across any type of organisation.

This one-day accredited course is particularly suited to those stepping into a safety representative or supervisory role. It expands on the key principles introduced at Level 1, giving delegates the confidence to assess risks, recognise hazards, and contribute effectively to workplace safety systems.

Learners will explore the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and related regulations, understanding the legal duties placed on both employers and employees. The course also covers the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, which set out the process for conducting suitable and sufficient risk assessments, a crucial step in preventing workplace injuries and illnesses.

Through interactive discussion, practical examples, and case studies, participants examine the most common workplace hazards, including slips, trips, manual handling, fire risks, and use of machinery. They learn how to identify suitable control measures and ensure incidents are reported, recorded, and reviewed correctly.

The training also highlights the importance of effective communication in promoting a positive health and safety culture, including the role of safety briefings, signage, and reporting mechanisms. By the end of the course, learners will have a solid understanding of how to maintain safe working environments and respond confidently to accidents or near misses.

This qualification is delivered face-to-face over one full day by NUCO-approved trainers and is assessed through a short multiple-choice exam. It serves as an excellent foundation for progression to higher-level qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safely.
