Modern Slavery

Overview

Modern slavery can affect any sector, organisation or community, often in ways that are not immediately visible. This Modern Slavery webinar provides a practical introduction to understanding what modern slavery is, how it presents in real-world settings, and what to do if you are concerned that someone may be at risk.

Delivered as a live online session, this one-hour webinar explores the different forms modern slavery can take, the warning signs that may indicate exploitation, and the steps to take when concerns arise. It is designed to build confidence in recognising risk, responding appropriately, and understanding when and how to escalate concerns safely.

No prior knowledge is needed. The session is suitable for anyone who may come into contact with the public, service users, colleagues, customers, or supply chains as part of their role.

Course Content

This session is designed for people who want to better understand modern slavery, but may feel unsure what to look for or what to do if something does not seem right. The webinar provides a clear, accessible introduction to the issue, helping learners build confidence in recognising possible signs of exploitation and responding in a safe, proportionate way.

You will explore what modern slavery is, how it can present across different settings, and why it is often missed. The session looks at common indicators that may suggest someone is being exploited, including behavioural, environmental and situational signs, and explains how these may appear in day-to-day working life.

The webinar also covers what to do when a concern arises. This includes how to respond calmly, avoid causing harm, record concerns appropriately, and understand when concerns should be reported or escalated. The focus is on safe awareness, practical judgement, and knowing your role rather than investigation.

Previous learners have found this type of training particularly useful in building confidence around a subject that can feel difficult or overwhelming. For many, the value comes from understanding that spotting concerns is not about having all the answers, but about recognising risk, responding appropriately, and knowing how to take the next safe step.

The course is open to individuals working within small and micro-businesses, VCSE organisations, sole traders and diverse-owned organisations. Eligibility criteria apply, with priority given to organisations supporting or operating within Kent (including Medway) and North Wales.
