You’ll explore setting objectives, budgeting, venues, accessibility, risk management, suppliers and coordinating staff and volunteers. The course also considers relevant legal and safety responsibilities and provides practical guidance for managing the event itself and evaluating its success afterwards.
Designed for charities, community groups, social enterprises and small organisations, the session provides a straightforward planning framework that you can adapt to events of different types and sizes.

A successful event starts long before people arrive. From community celebrations and fundraising activities to conferences and networking events, effective planning helps ensure that everyone involved understands what needs to happen, when it needs to happen and who is responsible.
This practical half-day course takes you through the event planning process, beginning with defining your purpose, audience and intended outcomes. You’ll explore how to translate an idea into a realistic event plan, establish timelines, allocate responsibilities and keep everyone involved informed as plans develop.
The session considers the practicalities of budgeting, venue selection, suppliers and resources, alongside important considerations such as accessibility, insurance, health and safety, data protection and licensing where relevant. Rather than treating compliance as a one-size-fits-all checklist, you’ll learn to identify the requirements that may apply to your particular event and where further advice or permissions may be needed.
You’ll also consider the people involved in delivering a successful event, including staff, volunteers, speakers, suppliers and other partners. Practical guidance on briefings, contingency planning and event-day coordination will help you prepare for both planned activities and unexpected situations.
Finally, you’ll explore what happens after the event, including gathering feedback, reviewing outcomes, reconciling budgets and capturing learning that can improve future events.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a practical framework that can be adapted to different events, helping you approach planning and delivery in a structured, considered and confident way.
We’d be happy to discuss your requirements and the training options available.
