Course Content

Even experienced first aiders can lose confidence if they have not practised their skills for some time. This Annual Refresher course is designed to help qualified first aiders maintain their knowledge, update techniques and reinforce essential practical skills between formal requalification courses.

Delivered over half a day, the course is fast-paced and practical, revisiting the essential elements of workplace first aid. Participants will review how to manage an unconscious casualty, perform CPR, use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and assist someone who is choking. It also provides an opportunity to ask questions, clarify procedures, and practise in a safe and supportive environment.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) strongly recommends that workplace first aiders complete an annual refresher to maintain their competence. While not mandatory, many organisations see this as best practice and a key part of their internal risk management and safety culture. For regulated industries or settings where teams work in isolated roles, high-risk environments, or with vulnerable individuals, a regular refresh ensures everyone remains confident and prepared to respond.

Regular refresher training benefits both organisations and individuals. It helps maintain workplace readiness, supports safer working environments and gives first aiders confidence that they can respond effectively if an emergency occurs.

Learners leave the session with refreshed skills, renewed confidence and practical experience of key first aid techniques. It is a simple and effective way to stay prepared, because in an emergency, every second matters.
