Social Impact in Partnership with Sodexo

Social Value

04 November 2024

When big corporations like Sodexo look to make a genuine difference in the communities they serve, it’s partnerships like the one with Social Enterprise Kent (SEK) that make it possible.

SEK, a long-standing social enterprise with a mission for local impact, has teamed up with Sodexo to bring real, positive change to Kent. And this partnership doesn’t just check boxes on social value commitments – it creates lasting benefits for everyone involved, with a ripple effect that keeps spreading.

Why Partnering with SEK Makes a Difference

Sodexo first reached out to SEK in 2022 as they prepared a bid for a new government contract in Kent. Faced with the need to truly understand local needs, Sodexo recognised SEK as the ideal partner to help shape a bid that would resonate with and support the community. Being a social enterprise, SEK brought something unique to the table: an understanding of local challenges and a built-in commitment to creating social impact. This connection allowed Sodexo not just to craft a compelling bid but to strengthen its ties with the Kent community in a meaningful way.

And the result? Sodexo secured the contract and quickly turned their commitments into actions, partnering with SEK to deliver a range of training programs for Kent’s SMEs, VCSEs, and diverse-owned businesses. This wasn’t just about meeting contractual goals; it was about creating opportunities and building resilience for local businesses.

From Bids to Big Impact

With SEK at the helm, Sodexo exceeded its targets in the first year alone. They hosted five training programs that drew over 67 participants from 55 organizations, covering everything from Mental Health Management to Net Zero goals. Thanks to SEK’s local knowledge and network, Sodexo was able to amplify its support for the community while increasing its social impact.

By partnering with a social enterprise like SEK, corporations can double down on their social value goals, benefiting from SEK’s deep-rooted commitment to community well-being and support for other social enterprises. And as a social enterprise, SEK reinvests income into further projects, which means working with them directly increases local social impact – a win-win for corporations and communities alike.

A Positive Partnership That’s Here to Stay

The benefits of this partnership didn’t stop with the training programs. For SEK, working with a corporate partner like Sodexo has not only broadened their reach but also introduced them to new clients and community partners, allowing them to scale their impact even further.

Gina English, SEK’s Sales and Marketing Manager, summed it up: “Working with Sodexo has truly amplified our impact. We’re able to reach more people, build stronger networks, and keep pushing for positive change in Kent. It’s inspiring to work with partners who share our commitment to community-centered impact.”

Why Corporations Should Choose SEK from Day One

For corporations operating in the South East, SEK brings a powerful mix of local expertise, social enterprise credentials, and commitment to real impact. Working with SEK from the bid stage adds credibility to social value commitments, enhances bids, and builds a foundation for partnerships that matter. And as a social enterprise, SEK offers a unique benefit: every partnership and project strengthens the wider social impact, supporting local communities in a way that just makes sense.
