Supporting Safe and Positive Practice with Children and Young People

Working with children and young people brings significant responsibilities. Professionals need to understand not only how to recognise and respond to concerns, but how children’s experiences, development and individual needs can influence their behaviour, relationships and wellbeing.

Our Children’s Services portfolio brings together training that supports different aspects of this responsibility. Safeguarding remains an important foundation, alongside courses exploring child sexual exploitation, radicalisation, online safety, self-harm and other risks that professionals may encounter.

The wider programme also considers how children and young people experience the world around them. Topics such as attachment, separation and loss, autism awareness, learning disabilities and professional boundaries help build understanding and encourage thoughtful, inclusive approaches to support.

Courses are designed to connect knowledge with everyday practice. Scenarios, discussion and practical examples help learners consider what signs they might notice, what their responsibilities are, how they should respond and when concerns need to be shared or escalated.

Children’s services also operate within an evolving legal and professional landscape. Relevant training reflects current legislation, statutory guidance and recognised practice, while helping learners understand the difference between legal responsibilities, organisational procedures and good professional judgement.

Together, the portfolio supports a consistent approach to children’s safety and wellbeing, helping organisations strengthen practice across safeguarding, prevention, early recognition, appropriate response and ongoing support.
