Universal Wellbeing

Community Wellbeing

The Universal Wellbeing project provides events and activities for over 55s or adults with complex needs in Thanet and the South Kent Coast. It also includes a Community Wellbeing Fund, which is used to support grassroots organisations with funding which fills gaps in provision in the area.

Wellbeing Activities

There are hundreds of activities taking place across Thanet and South Kent Coast from walking football to tai chi to gardening to coffee mornings, men’s sheds and Latin dancing!

What some of our participants have said:

“If I didn’t get picked up and brought here, I would do nothing at all as I have no access to transport. I come here and enjoy the meals the activities and most of all mixing with others. It stops me feeling isolated and I can talk to staff about my worries too."
“The great thing about learning at my age is that it is keeping my body and mind active but more importantly I am also part of a community who have immense experience and who look out for each other. Everyone has been so kind and supportive, we have made new friends and life has more purpose. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave side in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy ****" what a ride!"
"I was in great pain and could not straighten my right leg, also an old fracture in my upper spine sustained as a child was causing pain and affecting nerves in my spine... At first, I could not stand without holding onto the side of the pool. The lifeguards do a sterling job getting me in and out of the water. The support, advice and encouragement has inspired me to push myself further every week and now I can do freestanding exercises and walk the length and breadth of the pool. Even the other attendees have commented on my progress."
"I cannot stress enough that the different activities you offer were a life saver for me. I laughed at the thought of nordic walking. I thought it was naff, but after the first couple of weeks, Loz was so lovely and welcoming and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The benefits of exercise both physically, mentally and socially have been enormous and I cannot thank you enough."
